RUBY REVEALS: HOW TO BANISH DRY WINTER LIPS
Is the cold, dry weather playing havoc with your lips? Most cases of dry lips can be treated easily.
Hydrating
As lips don’t have oil glands, they don’t retain moisture, so staying hydrated is key to preventing dry lips. As well as drinking water, applying a lip balm or serum throughout the day will help keep lips soft and supple. Apply balms all over the lips, making sure to include the outer corners. If you have very dry lips, try an overnight lip masks to hydrate whilst you sleep.
Exfoliating
For flaky lips, exfoliating once or twice a week will help keep lips soft and smooth. Gently massage in circular motions with either an exfoliating scrub, or an old soft toothbrush.
Protection
The same way we layer up our clothes to protect ourselves from the elements, we should do the same for our skin and lips. Even in the colder months, it’s important to add a layer of SPF to protect our lips from UV rays.
Textures
For a bold statement, opt for a vibrant matte shade, bursting with pigment. Gone are the days of matte shades being drying, with hydrating ingredients now included across most brands. If you prefer high shine, Lancome Juicy Tubes or Victoria Beckham Posh Gloss are two of my favourite glosses for the perfect high shine pout. My day-to-day go to however is my Lip Serums, infusing lips with a sheer wash of colour and nutrient rich formulations for luscious lips. I’ve worn them every day since approving the formulation!
Colour
Trialling colour is all about experimentation. When shopping for lipstick always carry q-tips with you, lightly roll over the bullet to remove the top layer. This allows you to then test either on the back of your hand or lips.
