RUBY REVEALS: TOP TIPS FOR COLOUR CORRECTION

Hyperpigmentation appears in various forms; sunspots, melasma, freckles, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. While skincare can mitigate discolouration, there may be times you wish to conceal to create a smoother looking base.

Depending on the intensity of hyperpigmentation, colour correction may be necessary before applying concealer. Common correctors are peach, orange, or red hues, which neutralise darker patches. When you think back to art class and colour theory - opposite colours counteract each other:

  • Green cancels out redness
  • Orange cancels out blue-toned dark circles
  • Purple/yellow counteract each other

How to colour correct effectively:

  1. Prep Your Skin: Start with a clean and moisturised face before applying any product. This ensures a smooth base and helps to blend seamlessly.

  2. Apply small amounts: Not everything on social media is true. You don't require huge triangles of red under your eyes to colour correct. Use a small amount of corrector only on the targeted areas. You can build up the product gradually as needed.

  3. Blend: Blend the corrector using your fingertips, sponge, or a small brush. This helps the target area blend seamlessly with the rest of you skin.

  4. Layer: Using the colour corrector alone is not enough. You will need to layer a concealer that matches your skin tone over the corrected areas, to create a natural finish. Tap in the concealer to melt the textures on top of one another rather than smudging them together.

  5. Set with Powder: Set the area with a translucent setting powder to help it last all day.

Prevention also plays a crucial role in managing hyperpigmentation. Always wear SPF to shield against UV rays, and opt for skincare products containing ingredients like niacinamide, retinols, and vitamin C to diminish dark spots.

Always consult with a doctor or dermatologist if you have any major skin concerns, and remember, all skin is beautiful ♥️
