RUBY RECOMMENDS | UNDERSTANDING MASCARA

Achieving the perfect mascara application requires more than just a quick swipe. The trick is knowing where to apply it, how to layer it, and which mascara is right for you.

First step: finding the right brush. Why did we go for Micro?

Thin, micro brushes are the best for definition. The tiny wand captures every hair root to tip, lengthening each lash no matter how tiny the hair. It provides ultimate control.. you can get the inner corners, outer corners and lower lashes. The end result is beautifully defined, natural looking lashes. Micro-spiral brushes are my personal favourite.

Next step: finding the right formulation. What is a Tubing Formulation?

Tubing mascara, unlike traditional mascara formulas, creates tiny "tubes" around each lash rather than painting them with pigment. These tubes wrap around your lashes, providing length and definition without clumping or smudging. When it comes time to remove your makeup, these tubes slide off effortlessly with warm water, leaving no residue behind.

Traditional mascaras are formulated with waxes and oils, which can be painted on to the lashes. These are great for building volume and drama, but can be prone to smudging, especially if you already have oily eye lids.

Waterproof mascaras are the perfect option when you don't want your makeup to smudge. Formulated with silicone or wax based ingredients in addition to a volatile such as Isododecane, these stay put until you remove them.  Unsuitable for everyday use, due to the risk of drying out your lashes these are perfect for the big events in life.

Why did we choose a Tubing Formulation?

Longevity - Tubing mascara is renowned for its longevity. Once applied, it stays put throughout the day without flaking or smudging, making it ideal for long workdays or special occasions.

No Clumping or Smudging - Say goodbye to panda eyes! Tubing mascara coats each lash evenly, preventing clumps and ensuring a flawless, smudge-free finish.

Easy Removal - Removing mascara can be a hassle, especially when it comes to stubborn waterproof formulas. With tubing mascara, all it takes is a gentle swipe with warm water to effortlessly dissolve the tubes and wash them away.

Lash Care - Unlike traditional mascaras that can be harsh on lashes, tubing mascara forms a protective layer around each lash, providing nourishment and preventing breakage.

Versatility - Whether you're going for a natural look or dramatic lashes, tubing mascara can adapt to your needs. Simply layer on more coats for added volume or keep it light for a subtle enhancement.

Lash-loving Ingredients

With the new wave of mascaras, lashes now become stronger and healthier with every wear.

  • Caffeine - stimulates hair growth, for longer lashes.
  • Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid - Restores and retains moisture, for health and hydration.
  • Tripeptides, Pentapeptides & Copper Peptides - Antioxidant benefits, strengthening properties and helps stimulate hair growth.

Application

I always start by curling my lashes with an eyelash curler. This helps lift the lashes and open the eyes, for the most impactful look. Hold the curler at the base of the lashes for a few seconds for best results.

Mascara is one of the last products I apply, so i always start with application on the topside of my lashes. It’s likely that some powder or eyeshadow is accidentally deposited on top of your lashes, so this helps cover that and ensure your lashes are coated from all angles. I’ll then move on to the underneath of my lashes, start from the root and working outwards. When applying to the lower lashes, be careful not to be too heavy-handed to avoid clumping/smudging. You want to add definition, but the lower lashes should be more subtle than the upper.

Mascara Cocktail-ing

If you’re going for a natural day-to-day look, one coat may be enough, but if you’re prepping for a night out you can always add a couple of layers. It may be that you need to add a more volumising formulation on top, for a more dramatic look. If you have narrower, almond shape eyes, focus the product on the outer corners, whereas for wider eyes, focus product on the inner corners.

The Brow Gel

As an artist, we are taught to never forget the brows as they frame your eyes and face. The micro brow-brush captures every hair from root to tip, perfect for precise application, taking over from the dental brushes I’ve kept on set over the years.

Enriched with nourishing and fortifying ingredients, the clear lightweight gel helps keep brows in place for a healthier and fuller appearance. Infused with Caffeine, Panthenol, Arginine, Alanine and Tripetides, our Brow Gel conditions and strengthens the hairs with every use.

Application

Eyebrows really are the frame to your face, so it's important to find the size and shape that suits you. Brushing up your brow with a spool s is one of the quickest things you can do to instantly open up your face. Fill in sparse brows with a brow pencil or powder, using feathered strokes for a natural look. Finally, apply the Brow Gel in a gentle sweep to keep them in place all day.
